Urban Resilience Summit 8-11 july

In July 2019, 100 Resilient Cities - pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) - will bring together their network of urban resilience practitioners from cities around the world in Rotterdam to celebrate the impact of the global movement they are building together, share best-in-class practices and innovations in the field, build personal and professional relationships, and identify opportunities for partnerships and collective action.

(100RC:) The host city Rotterdam at its core is an incubator of ideas, innovation and experimentation. As a post-industrial portside city in the process of rapid social, economic and physical transformation, Rotterdam provides an ideal setting in which to experience resilience in practice and demonstrates a spirit of openness to fostering critical cross-cultural conversations that create the ideal learning environment for our member cities and partners.

2019 URBAN RESILIENCE SUMMIT AGENDA OVERVIEW

Summit Objectives

This year’s Summit will offer the opportunity for all resilience practitioners to:

  • Gain new insights, practices, and inspiration to advance your resilience-building work in city.
  • Immerse yourself in the global community of resilience practitioners from the public, private, multi-lateral and non-profit sectors.
  • Build connections with fellow CROs, member city officials, and partner organizations that lead to impact back home.
  • Further existing and foster new areas for collective action on a range of critical topics.

Summit Agenda at a glance
The power of our network is at its most compelling when Chief Resilience Officers, city officials and partners roll up their sleeves and work together to advance innovation and co-create solutions. In many ways, the structure of the Urban Resilience Summit mirrors the philosophy 100RC was built on in its mix of learning and action.

Monday, July 8
Reception to welcome all the member cities and 100RC partners.

Tuesday, July 9
The first day of the Summit will offer participants the opportunity to connect with member cities and 100RC partners on a range of topics sourced from the Network. We have consistently heard from our urban resilience practitioners a desire for more time to be able to network and connect during our Global Summits on issues that matter to them – so we will dedicate Tuesday afternoon to a mix of curated and open networking sessions.

Wednesday, July 10
Living Laboratories provide Summit participants with the opportunity to explore resilience in practice through a series of immersive field visits that demonstrate ongoing resilience projects and initiatives in Rotterdam and the greater region (including fellow member city The Hague). Living labs offer insight into not only resilience successes, but also reveal the challenges member cities face in implementing projects on the ground, with a focus on why and how the approach taken is building resilience and creating the opportunity to source input and perspectives from the global audience of practitioners in attendance.

Thursday, July 11
The final day of the Summit will offer the opportunity for 100RC member cities, partners and staff to go deeper into core thematic areas through longer workshop sessions that focus on a variety of entry points (eg, design, financing/funding, governance, etc.) within a given thematic area ranging from water resilience to civic technology. In addition, we will create the space for Network members to self-organize around topics of most interest and value to them so they can continue to take the resilience-building work forward.
